mommy don't know daddy's getting hot
[ The forges of Aulë are many and varied, kept at separate heats for different levels of skill, and all of them have an entrance to a private room so the petal-like effect (Yavanna's influence) allows for the most competent of smiths to share the hottest fires. Attached to one of these, unable to see the other forgers through the oven and able to enjoy relative privacy in his chamber even with the echoes of their clanging, one smith in particular only hears about the visiting Vala when one of his peers hisses through the huge hearth they share, "They are coming our way!"
Mairon has no idea what is happening other than Lord Aulë is entertaining his family. Showing off, ostensibly.
He goes back to work.
His forge is tidier and far more organised than the rampant mess in other Maiar's chambers, the soot is at a minimum and shelves of gleaming items line the walls by the door: projects he was only interested in until their completion. Now, he works on a request from his lord for Oromë, another magnificent spear that will not break. Gold, mostly, and since Mairon's speciality is strengthening that particular soft metal he has been honoured with the task: it is a little dull, as work goes. Hardly a challenge, save to make it impressive and showy enough to please the Vala, as well as strong. Lost in concentration, he wipes sweat off his brow and a smear settles there. He does not notice when Aulë shows his guest around the highest-ranking smithies, blonde hair hiding his face as he bends over the spear-tip, sharpening it with screeches of diamond-glass.
All he can think of is what task he might be granted after finishing this one, something (hopefully) far more worthy of his Artes. ]
